Joint/Spine Mobilisations
Mobilisations are techniques used to move or articulate the spinal vertebrae or joints, without the sudden sharp thrust used in manipulation techniques. I use mobilisations developed in the disciplines of osteopathy, physiotherapy, Thai massage and myofascial release. When mobilising a joint I will also release the small paraspinal muscles between the vertebrae to give lasting mobility. Mobilisations are often used because a joint or vertebra has become stiff or fixated, causing pain and/or restricted movement. They may also be used if a joint or vertebra is out of place, or to help avoid the onset of osteoarthritis, spinal degeneration and ruptured (slipped) discs. They do this by increasing the joint health and encouraging good circulation in the joint, spine and vertebral discs. Mobilisations are particularly helpful in treating joint/spinal stiffness, trapped nerves, sciatica, frozen shoulder, facet problems, disc irritation, carpal tunnel and old joint/spinal injuries.
