IASTM (Instrument assisted soft-tissue manipulation)
Instrument Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is a therapeutic modality which utilizes specialized stainless steel tools to treat soft-tissue pathology and scar tissue. Although tools have been used to work the bodies soft-tissues for 1000's of years, modern IASTM method has refined the tools and techniques to have greater benifit, without damaging the skin surface. IASTM helps to improve joint & tissue mobility, reduce pain, and facilitate healing by targeting scar tissue, myofascial adhesion's, and fibrosis within the bodies soft-tissues.
By applying controlled pressure and movement, practitioners can effectively break down fascial restrictions, increase blood flow and facilitate collagen/tissue proliferation to the affected areas. As the instruments glide over skin, they create micro-trauma in the targeted tissues, which triggers an inflammatory response that encourages the natural healing process. This technique has been shown to be beneficial for various conditions, including tendonitis & tendonopathies, chronic soft-tissue injuries, plantar fascitis and post-surgical scar tissue issues, making it a valuable addition to my therapeutic practice.
